History

Gujarat Cancer Society (GCS) is a 50-years old pioneer charitable trust to fight against cancer with the help of the Government of Gujarat. In the year 1971, Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute (GCRI) was established as a public-private partnership venture between GCS and the Government of Gujarat. The Governor of Gujarat presides as the president of the organization. Since then, GCS has been providing care to patients suffering from cancer at M. P. Shah Cancer Hospital, Civil Hospital Compound, Ahmedabad, and Community Oncology Centre (COC), Vasna. Lacs of patients have been diagnosed and treated to date.

GCS has a tremendous record of capabilities in health care, education, research, and community services. Our expertise prompted Gujarat Government to invite us to start a healthcare facility to serve the under-privileged citizens at an affordable cost and create a stream of trained medical professionals in the Medical College.

At the Vibrant Gujarat Summit - January’09, Dr. Pankaj M. Shah signed MOU with the Government of Gujarat to build and develop a State-of-the-art Multispeciality Hospital and College under the auspices of The Gujarat Cancer Society. The Government of Gujarat handed over papers of the land of the New Swadeshi Mills compound (approximately 25 acres) in September’09 to General Secretary Shri Prashant Kinarivala and Secretary Shri Kshitish Madanmohan in presence of Government officials and Dr. P. M. Shah, Dr. R. I. Dave, Dr. Shilin Shukla of GCS. A committee was formed under the leadership of Shri Pankaj R. Patel, Executive Chairman of GCS. Bhoomi Poojan was done by Dr. Narendra Patel, on 12th December’09.

GCS Medical College, Hospital, and Research Centre was dedicated to people by Shri Narendra Modi (Hon'ble Prime Minister of India) in August 2011.

This state-of-the-art infrastructure has been built by Gujarat Cancer Society on the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model on 25 acres of area. Today, GCSMCH is a one-stop destination for any healthcare requirement a common man needs, backed by state-of-the-art facilities & best medical expertise.
